West of Tours is located Villandry. Here is one of the last Renaissance castles in the Loire region. The site manager of Chambord castle (and Finance Minister Francis I) has built it in 1539. Even then, the castle was known for his beautiful terraced gardens. But only the present owner family (Carvallo family since 1906) has brought the gardens of Villandry to perfection. It is the only reconstructed Renaissance garden in France. It must be seen!
